Learn more about our camp!

Will my child be welcome at camp?
Yes! Shrine Mont Camps is a place where everyone is welcome! We strive to invite and include children, youth, and families of all colors, cultures, language, genders, sexualities, and abilities. We believe that ALL of God's children make up the body of Christ and we hope that we can reflect that in our community.
What role does faith play at camp?
We welcome all faith backgrounds as well as those who do not come from a faith background for a chance to explore our beliefs and how we live in community. We, as Episcopalians, are a welcoming, inclusive and justice-oriented denomination of progressive Christianity. Open-minded, faith-based discussions and engaging activities for all ages and stages are part of the daily program at camp.
Are discounts available?
Yes! Through the generosity of many whose lives have been touched by Shrine Mont Camps, we are able to provide a financial gift to help you afford the tier two, "Pay Your Way" cost of a camp session. Applications can be found on our website and during the online registration process.

What happened to St. Andrew's Camp?
St. Andrew's Camp is now welcoming parents and families to enjoy camp with their children. Intentionally scheduling St. Andrew's Camp at the same time, and in lodging near to families attending Family Camp, the two camps will offer some programming together, or families will choose to do things on their own, whichever they prefer. Family Camp and St. Andrew's have similar goals and missions, thus we're excited that the two can unite to offer a welcoming and loving program for all of God's children.
Will counselors make sure that my child performs regular hygiene routines (brushing teeth, bathing, wears clean clothes, etc)?
Counselors are prepared to encourage campers to bathe at particular times each day. Cabin counselors teach campers, on the first day, how to use the private showers in the bath houses, and to use the sinks to brush their teeth. Cabin counselors also encourage campers to wear clean clothes each day and after activities in which their clothes may become sweaty or dirty.

Does my child have to drink communion wine if offered at a worship service?
No, your child does not have to drink communion wine offered during Eurcharist at camp. We, as Episcopalians, consider it "full communion" to receive only the bread, known as "receiving in one kind". This is an ancient practice and is not considered an incomplete reception of the sacrament. Your child can also request a blessing if they prefer rather than receiving the bread and communion wine.
Can I contact my child during the camp session? What if they're sad after we leave?
If there is anything that you would like to communicate to your child, we ask that you call the Camps office at 540-856-3113 or email campregistrar@episcopalvirginia.org. If we observe signs of homesickness, we will strategize a plan with you to do what we think is best for your child. We have learned that talking to a parent often makes homesickness worse, so we want to plan carefully and do everything possible to help your children experience a great time at camp.
What is the food like at Shrine Mont and what if my child doesn't eat?
Campers and families typically have very positive reviews of the food offered at Shrine Mont. The dining hall offers two buffet lines (with the same options), and campers will select food and serve their own plates. There are always choices of meat or fish, grain, vegetable, and dessert served at lunch and dinner. A vegan station and sunbutter and jelly station are also offered at every meal.

Can my child keep any medicine in their bag in case they need it?
No, it is required of all campers to submit all medication to the camp nurse upon check-in the first day. Our nurses will ensure that campers receive all their medication when needed, and if they ever need any other medication, they should tell their counselors and one of the nursing staff will help them.
What if my child feels sick?
We have two, full-time, nurses on staff as well as infirmary counselors who support them. Each nurse manages an infirmary strategically close to the campsites. If your child feels sick at camp, they should tell their counselors and, depending on their symptoms, a counselor will help them or request assistance from the nursing staff. Your child may visit the infirmary to be checked by a nurse and there are also private rooms in the infirmaries with beds where campers can rest if needed. Parents are notified by the nurses when campers are checked in the infirmary.
